Edith - Tutorials - Free Motion Quilting - Piqué libre
Edith Choinière Quilt Designer & Creator My passion for quilting began at the age of 10, though I had no access to formal instruction at the time. It wasn’t until 1984, at the age of 22, that I was finally able to pursue this dream. While serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, I met my husband, an Acadian from Rogersville, New Brunswick, and we were posted to CFB Gagetown. There, under the guidance of my mother-in-law, I learned the fundamentals of traditional quilting. At that time, specialized quilting tools were not yet available on the market, making the learning process both challenging and rewarding. In 1993, we were posted to Portage-la-Prairie, Manitoba. During this period, I expanded my artistic practice to include oil painting and began exhibiting my work through the local Arts Council. I also began teaching art classes, which helped me connect with the community. Shortly after arriving in Portage, I had the privilege of meeting two remarkable individuals, Aimée, an Algonquin from the Ottawa region, and her husband, a Lakota Sioux from Long Plain, Manitoba. Over the next three years, they generously shared their knowledge of Indigenous arts and crafts. I learned to prepare raw hides for drums and shields, and acquired skills in beadwork, moccasin-making, mukluks, mittens, bags, dream catchers, and other ceremonial items. These experiences deeply enriched my artistic perspective and profoundly influenced the direction of my quilting and design work. In 1996, we returned to Quebec. Due to the limited availability of raw hides, I refocused on quilting, my first love, but sought a more innovative and challenging approach. I discovered a quilting book by Pam Bono, whose designs stood apart from the traditional styles of the time. I reached out to her, and over the years, we developed a close friendship. Pam became a mentor and invited me to visit her in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, where she introduced me to the business side of quilt design. Her guidance and encouragement were instrumental in shaping my career. In 2008, with Pam’s support, I launched my own business as a quilt designer and textile artist. The name COLLECTION INÉDITH is a creative play on the French word inédite, which figuratively means unique, a reflection of the originality and distinctiveness I strive to bring to each of my creations.

Steven is a retired High School English Teacher who used to be a paper crafter but then discovered the wonderful world of quiliting and embroidery. He has been doing this now for about ten years and he is the creator of the You Tube Channel "The Idiot Quilter" where he talks about and demonstrate quilting and embrodiery techniques as well as 3D Printing. I conduct "on line" sewing days every Wednesday and Pop Up Sewing Events at least once a month as well as two "free" sewing retreats twice a year. Quilting and Machine Embroidery are my life. "A day without creativity, is a day without sunshine!"
