In 1987, Jean (Johnny) Larochelle turned his garage into the birthplace of what would become Monfil. Drawing from his extensive background in the textile industry—having worked closely with the leading thread companies of the time—he saw a gap in the market. He envisioned a supplier that didn't just sell thread, but truly understood the intricate needs of embroiderers.
What started as a one-man operation supplying local businesses quickly grew. Through word of mouth and a reputation for unparalleled reliability, Monfil expanded across Canada. As the industry evolved, so did we, moving from basic supplies to offering a comprehensive range of premium threads, stabilizers, and accessories.
A Journey Through The Years

Johnny enters the textile industry and develops practical experience in garment manufacturing, embroidery, screen printing, sewing, and customer service.
SuperPunch is founded, initially offering embroidery digitizing services before expanding into commercial embroidery supplies and equipment.
Monfil.ca is launched to better serve home embroiderers, quilters, and sewing enthusiasts across Canada.
Johnny's son, Tommie, joins the company and becomes part of the next generation of leadership.
Monfil proudly serves customers from coast to coast, offering carefully selected embroidery, sewing, and quilting products supported by knowledgeable and personal service.

After nearly three decades in the textile and embroidery industry, Johnny was joined by his son Tommie in 2015. Together, they run Monfil with a shared commitment to quality and service. This unique father-son partnership combines decades of technical expertise with modern innovation to support Canada's embroidery, sewing, and quilting communities.
